Watch out for a brand new nightlife experience coming your way this August. Run by industry mainstays Michel Lu and Yuan Oeij, Stereolab is set to inject a high dosage of glamour back into the entertainment landscape in Singapore with its distinct décor, customized sound system and definitive musical direction.

Located on the ground floor of the Pan Pacific Hotel, Stereolab will encompass two parts – an exclusive intimate 300 capacity dance club as well as a complementary restaurant bar of similar size named Stereolounge. The décor will follow a retro-futuristic sensibility, reminiscent of ‘60s aesthetics but with a glitzy modern twist.

Michel’s foremost priority in designing this club was ultimate sound fidelity. Stereolab’s sound system is custom designed and currently being hand-built in New York by the winner of multiple “World’s Best Club Sound System” awards, Craig Bernebeau of Systems by Shorty New York. Bernebeau’s fully analog system promises warm, clear sound, perfect for House music in every form.

And House music in every form is the exact direction that Stereolab plans to take. Fridays will feature classic garage and disco, while Saturdays will be reserved for more forward, progressive forms of the genre, including tech-house. “House music will never die,” says Michel Lu, one half of Stereolab’s founding fathers, “it’s a genre that has surpassed fads and phases, and is a genre that most people can relate to.”

Both Stereolab and Stereolounge will cater to an upmarket sophisticated crowd, 25 years and up, who yearn for a place not just to party Friday and Saturday nights away at, but a place they can also go for top quality food and drinks 7 days a week, whether after a long day at work or on a Sunday evening.

Stereolounge will feature a wide range of scrumptious dishes that will be filling enough to replace dinner, yet will be served in the “small bites” format. Soups, salads, burgers, steaks and stews are just some of the items that can be expected on the menu designed by Michelin starred masterchef Wayne Nish.

This sensitivity to high quality and lifestyle aesthetic stems directly from directors Michel Lu and Yuan Oeij, who both have a slew of successful restaurants and nightspots behind them, including the multi-concept Privé at the Marina at Keppel Bay as well as iconic bar Hacienda at Dempsey Village.

Their success in creating concepts of exceptional quality and creativity was a deciding factor in winning the space at the Pan Pacific. “We’re very excited to be partnering with Michel and Yuan in this upcoming development, and are very confident that the venue will be something really special” said Ivan Lee, General Manager of Pan Pacific Singapore.

With a strong passion for music coupled with a special knack for creative lifestyle concepts, Michel Lu is finally making his return to the nightlife industry to which he is certainly no stranger. He first started out with Lush: Essential Living After Dark in 1999, which was a runaway success, and then went on to open Centro, Embargo and Lola at One Fullerton, three venues still spoken about dearly by seasoned clubbers. Centro was the first nightspot ever in Singapore to be granted a “24 hour license”, and also clinched the much-coveted Nightspot of the Year award.

To celebrate their soft opening, for Friday 7th August and Saturday 8th August 2009, all guests enjoy free entry to Stereolab (age limit is 25 year old). They’re also offering free Smirnoff Black cocktails between 9pm – 11pm in Stereolounge, and a 50% discount off all standard drinks in Stereolab between 1am – 2am.
