Live Bar @ The 50s Now Featuring English Live Band

Housed in a 4-storey Tanjong Pagar shophouse in the Neil Road conservation area, the 50s entertainment complex has been in the Chinese music nightlife scene for more than 15 years offering live Chinese music, a lounge and karaoke rooms but in February 2009, owner Simon Kwan decided to shake things up a little with renovation plans.

These included moving the Chinese music lounge previously on the ground level up to the 4th level, sprucing up the 3rd level karaoke rooms, creating a private room on the 2nd level for events or large groups and converting the ground level to an English live band bar called Live Bar @ The 50s.

About Live Bar @ The 50s

Wynne Sandosham Plays at Live Bar @ The 50s (Singapore)
Investing more than $200,000 into the renovations, Mr Kwan’s rationale for creating Live Bar is to provide a comfortable place where friends can gather, have a drink and listen to familiar favourite tunes provided by experienced and good musicians. Comfortable armchairs and bistro tables face the stage while cocktail tables and stools dot the back of the bar for more private conversations. A pool table graces the side of the bar for those who prefer to play while listening to the band. The ambience created is of a cosy, comfortable atmosphere for good music and drinks.

“Having been in the Singapore entertainment scene for 15 years, we are very grateful for our regular client base but we also recognize the need to remain relevant and inject fresh ideas and excitement into our concepts. Our resident band Soul Circle brings to Live Bar a vibe and sound that makes customers feel like they’re visiting old friends and listening to music they can sing along or even dance to,” said Mr Kwan.

Soul Circle, Headed By Wynne Sandosham

Soul Circle, headed by well-known singer Wynne Sandosham, sing nightly (except Sundays) from 9pm. Their repertoire range from soul numbers to pop rock and even Billboard top hits. Mr Kwan says, “The band’s range is very wide but more importantly, they’re good at reading the crowd and playing selections that the audience recognize and enjoy. With their style of music and easy-going natures, they attract the type of clientele who prefer small and intimate pubs where they can come by after work, have a few drinks and maybe a bite to eat.”

Catch Celebrities At Live Bar This July

Through Mr Kwan’s many celebrity connections, he’s also planning a series of events to create hype and activity at Live Bar. For July, this includes hosting the Super Band post concert on Saturday July 18. Performing at the Indoor Stadium, the Super Band comprising Jonathan Lee, Emil Chau WaKin, Zhang Zhen Yue and Luo DaYou will make an appearance at Live Bar after their concert and may perform some impromptu English numbers.

On Friday 24 July, Live Bar will also be the venue for the launch of singer-songwriter Hanjin Tan’s new English jazz album. Songwriter and music producer to the big names such as Hong Kong Heavenly King Jacky Cheung, Korean pop idol Rain and even Christina Aguilera!

The drinks menu is being revamped currently and will unveil a new drinks and wine menu by mid-July 2009 and this will be in line with the new clientele for Live Bar. In essence, Live Bar offers the whole package of good service, drinks, entertainment and ambience.
