New Super Dragonfly Is Born Again

28 July 2011 – Officially launched today, the new super Dragonfly at St James Power Station is the latest project by nightlife group St James Holdings Ltd (“St James”).

Closed for a month for major renovations, the 700 capacity live music and dance club officially unveiled its new look to loyal customers, trade partners, and a few lucky members of the public who won invites in a Facebook giveaway, to a huge party with 3 hours of free drinks and a taste of the new mega-club experience.

The new look includes giant LED screens on which a visual jockey or VJ turns music into imagery, multi-tiered dancers’ podiums and a new dancers’ bar for pole dancing performances. There is also a white baby grand piano that disappears after Happy Hour and moving light rigs that turn the stage into a second dance floor in between live sets to elevate the clubbing experience.

As part of a group-wide S$5 million revamp by St James, Mono, the karaoke bar which occupies levels 2 and 3 was also treated to a brand new cosmopolitan look, with classy touches within its newly renovated main hall and 10 private rooms that are reflective of some the most charming cities in the world.

Says Mr. Dennis Foo, the Chief Executive Officer (“CEO”) of St James, “This is a complete makeover that will wow customers. We have upped the ante with Dragonfly’s entertainment which now includes 8 top notch dancers, good looking and highly entertaining DJs and VJs, and a group of local and foreign singers and musicians, who are among the best in Singapore, performing each night. Our entertainers are backed by a team of committed technicians and even our bar food selection is restaurant grade.”

Over S$1 million was spent on new hardware and software to create a new and unique experience in Dragonfly, which now has no door charge from Sunday to Thursday.

Adds Mr. Andrew Ing, the Chief Operating Officer (“COO”) of St James, “For a newly renovated club to have no door charge is unheard of. Dragonfly is breaking away from tradition to offer no door charge on weekdays, allowing everyone to try this new experience for themselves. We’re taking away the invisible boundaries between seating areas and the dance floor so everything is completely integrated.”

A premier local brand
First opened in September 2006, Dragonfly was an instant hit. With local veteran William Scorpion, Singapore Idol alumni Sylvester Sim and veteran vocal powerhouse Skye Sirena commanding the stage, long queues snaking around the building were a common sight. As Singapore’s premier live music club, Dragonfly quickly became a highly sought after venue for music showcases by foreign artists such as Jay Chou, Jam Hsiao, Crowd Lu and FT Island. In 2009, over S$100,000 was spent on upgrading Dragonfly’s sound and lighting equipment as part of ongoing upgrading works. Dragonfly was the first club in Singapore to stage concert showcases for its resident artists, drawing on St James pool of artists, costume and AV professionals to create audio and visual feasts.

Nightly entertainment
A pianist and vocalist duo kick off Dragonfly’s nightly entertainment during Happy Hour, presenting a soothing repertoire of Chinese and English ballads. Dragonfly’s stable of local and foreign talents pump it up later in the night with live band sets backed by resident band Typhoon from Singapore as well as DJ/singer sets, ensuring that the music never stops. Pole dancers and bar top dancing bartenders are part of the entertainment line-up as well. Customers can also look forward to a calendar of events by St James’ stable of 140 artists, musicians, dancers, DJs and VJs.
