Timbre – Music Gigs (January – February 2012)
The following are the latest music gigs happening from January 2012 to February 2012 at Timbre outlets in Singapore.
SINGAPORE ORIGINALS: NICHOLAS CHIM
Date: Wednesday, 18 January 2012
Time: 8.00pm
Duration: 60 mins
Venue: Timbre @ The Substation
Admission: Free (minimum one drink applies.)
About the Artistt:
Nicholas Chim’s evolutionary journey of indie folk music is expressed in his second album Forgiefan – a record that is both classic and contemporary, highlighted by Chim’s haunting vocals along with guitar chords that are lucid yet dreamy. A painstaking process is recorded in this album – initiated by a difficult end to a relationship – what at first was an attempt to move on from emotional trauma became an exploration into the self – as a young man living in Singapore and also as a solo musician. Songs such as “As Long As You Come First” express longing and a desire, whereas “Caterwauling” reveals a more desperate sense of loss. One of the most bewitching songs on the album, “This House Still Stands” uses a string arrangement that illustrates a wistful beauty, bringing to mind a low point in an emotional landscape, yet at the same time bids farewell to a deep hangup, a resolution further asserted in Chim’s lyrics:“this house still stands on a hill, waiting for you to make it your home”. This journey through emotional introspection is the journal of a young man, and of love: the love of a woman, the love of his guitar, and the love of music. Chim’s dedication to perfecting his craft and expressing emotions is a formula for a talented singer and songwriter that every folk music enthusiast should watch out for.
