FRIDAY MAY 2nd
FROOTY LOOPS with
EFFEN + MARCUS

House / Electro

On this night we introduce to you two of Asia's youngest & most versatile DJs - Effen & Marcus, packed with a punch.

Effen and Marcus spent years playing in various clubs across Asia before catching the eyes (or ears) of Ministry of Sound and landing themselves a residency with the covenant institution of dance.

This dynamic duo is set out to burn the dance floor with their unique blend of dope remixes, bootlegs and progressive pornstar electro that is creating major tremors across the clubland.

Be prepared for harmonically-rich analogue basslines, abrasive high-pitched leads and the occasional piano and string riff.  This lip-licking nasty sound is guaranteed to make the ladies in the house get down and dirty.

SATURDAY MAY 3rd
KING UNIQUE (UK)
Dirty House / Electro

King Unique are made up of Matthew Roberts and Matt “Watkins” Thomas, a pair of studio junkies who excel in spinning rough-edged dirty house music, with a taste for bulldozer beats and sick synthesisers.

King Unique hit the floor running in 2001 and over the last 7 years, their records, remixes and re-edits have hit home with house-heads, nu-ravers and electro-rockers alike, being championed by everyone from Sasha to Soulwax, Danny Howells to Tiesto, and Pete Tong to Zane Lowe.

Their reknowned DJ sets has seen them play across all continents in the world from ultra-hip blacked-out sweat boxes in Tokyo to euphoric crowds of thousands on the tropical beaches of Madeira, and global festivals such as the huge Skol Beats in Brazil, the UK's Global Gathering, Weekenddance in Madeira and the renowned Exit festival in Serbia amongst others.

Since 2001, King Unique has claimed the title of Undisputed Remix Champs by scoring five Essential New Tunes in five months on Pete Tong’s BBC Radio 1 show.  The King Unique sound has been in constant demand since, appearing on dozens of remixes including King Dong sized floor-fillers such as Underworld’s “Two Months Off”, The Killers’ “Somebody Told Me”, Planet Funk’s “The Switch”, Mutiny’s “The Virus” and Jamiroquai’s “You Give Me Something”.  They are also regular names at all the best UK clubs: Turnmills (home to King Unique’s own "Curfew Time" nights), Tribal Sessions, Renaissance, The End, Ministry Of Sound, Godskitchen and Lush.

FRIDAY MAY 9th
PETER HOOK [NEW ORDER] (UK)
Electronica / House

Most music enthusiasts would remember him as the co-founder of the post-punk band Joy Division along with Bernard Sumner in 1980.  Following the death of lead singer Ian Curtis, the band reformed as New Order, in which the band melded post-punk and electronic dance.

When Peter Hook and his fellow New Order cohorts released “Blue Monday” in 1983, disco was very much a dirty word.  This brave step into uncharted musical territory showed the band fully embracing dance music and synthesised instruments, and is the best-selling 12-inch single of all time.  The hit proved a source of huge inspiration to dance music producers throughout the late 80’s and 90’s, and New Order are still regarded as musical pioneers by many of today’s leading lights.

As bass player of New Order, Peter Hook was heavily involved in the development of this brave new sound.  With over two decades of quality music tucked into his record box, Peter Hook is taking his place behind the decks for a DJ set not to be missed.

Pater Hook’s style is essentially a mash up of tracks which defines a musical generation, where the genres of indie and dance are fused together with all boundaries broken.  Featuring tunes present to the Hacienda or Manchester revolution, with a couple of New Order classics and exclusive remixes, as you may expect from a man of his musical calibre, this will be plenty of upfront material to boot.
